Configuring Windows Server 2012 File Sharing

Enable Network Discovery:

In order to enable the Network Discovery on a domain make sure the following services are enabled and running:

DNS Client
Function Discovery Resource Publication
SSDP Discovery
UPnP Device Host

 

Setup File Sharing:

Change Local Policy:

Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options ->

  • Network access: Allow anonymous SID/Name translation  –  Disabled
  • Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts  –  Disabled
  • Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares  –  Disabled
  • Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication  –  Disabled
  • Network access:  Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users  –  Enabled
  • Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares  –  Enabled
  • Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts  –  Classic – local users authenticate as themselves
  • Network security: LAN Manager authentication level  –  Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated

 

In the Advanced sharing settings page of Network and sharing center, you need to have it set as Work/Home profile.

  • Enable network discovery
  • Turn on  file and print sharing

 

Make sure the clock on the server and client machine are set to the same date and time.
